~ For those who step up when life doesn’t go to plan ~

West Norfolk Kinship

Because no one should have to do this alone

NB - This group is not held at Wellswill. Please see below for venue and map

Are you raising a relative or friend’s child?

Whether you stepped in out of love, necessity, or both, kinship care can be a path full of both deep meaning and real challenges — and it can feel lonely at times, especially when others don’t quite understand.

You’re not alone — and you shouldn’t have to figure it all out on your own.

This group is a space where you don’t have to explain. Where you can speak freely, share stories, laugh (and maybe cry), and feel the steady support of others walking a similar path.

We meet monthly in a relaxed, welcoming space in King’s Lynn. There are no speakers or formal sessions — just honest conversation, shared experience, and plenty of tea and cake (not to mention the bacon butties). Over the years, we’ve created a close-knit community that holds space for both the struggles and the celebrations of kinship care.

Whether you’re navigating school systems, contact arrangements, parenting teens again, or just want to sit in a room where people get it — you’re warmly invited to come along.

When: 10am–12pm, every second Wednesday of the month

In Case You’re Wondering

If you’re wondering what to expect, here are a few gentle answers to common questions. Take your time — and know you’re always welcome, just as you are.

What is a kinship carer?

A kinship carer is someone raising a relative’s or friend’s child — often due to difficult or unexpected family circumstances. You might be a grandparent, aunt, sibling, or close family friend stepping in to give a child the stability they need. You may have a formal legal order or it may be a more informal arrangement. They all count.

Who is the group for?

Anyone in a kinship care role. You’re welcome whether you’ve been doing this for years or have only just found yourself in this role.

Do I have to share my story?

Not at all. You’re welcome to come along, listen, have a cuppa, and just be with others who understand. There’s no pressure to talk — just the option to connect.

Is this a formal support group?

Nope. It’s a relaxed, peer-led space where people who ‘get it’ come together to share tips, frustrations, laughs, and everything in between. It’s about mutual support, not professionals or programmes.

How much does it cost?

It’s completely free. Just bring yourself.

Can I bring the children?

This group is designed to give carers a break — a little time to talk and be supported without needing to juggle caregiving.

Do I need to book?

It’s helpful if we know you’re coming, but you’re very welcome to just turn up. And if you’re unsure whether the group is right for you, feel free to get in touch first.

Sometimes all you need to start lightening the load is a single conversation.
